Understanding Variation – The Key to Managing Chaos, Donald J. Wheeler, SPC Press 1993. This book discusses the use of simple control charts for business results. Although the examples are for the manager of a manufacturing plant, the basic explanations are very good in this easy reading book.




The next two links deal with “honeycomb” technology, which is a very effective way to visually display multiple business results at the same time. Control charting could be coupled with this technology to determine when the colors would change in the map sections.

This link is a good source of software which runs as a macro in excel. This software will do regular charts as well as charts with trended averages to show the growth. The software is called QWXL.
